Industrial style in our Richmond project

It all started with a great brief – “…we are renovating a house in Richmond which will blend a traditional terrace with an industrial extension”.

Our clients were looking for assistance over two phases of work. The first was to help them refine a colour and materials palette that reflected their love of industrial style, review the layout and joinery design for the kitchen and bathrooms and provide recommendations on fixtures and fittings, including joinery, tapware and lighting.

Concept board

The concept we developed for the interior was “Raw Luxury”. Working with a largely monochrome palette of black, white and grey, this concept married the hard edges of industrial style with the warmth and softness of natural textures including timber, recycled brick and concrete.

To add impact to the kitchen, the bulkhead was painted black to tie in with the cabinetry and define the space. Birch ply edging around the cabinetry helped break up the black and add a touch of warmth. Overhead lighting in the kitchen was kept simple to allow the feature pendant over the dining table to be the hero.

In the ensuite and bathrooms, large format dark grey porcelain tiles were used on both the floor and walls to continue the industrial aesthetic, whilst custom made blackbutt bench tops introduced a beautiful, natural texture. Feature black tapware, white joinery and matte white basins completed the fit out.

After construction was complete, phase two of the project saw us assist with the selection of furniture and accessories as well as styling the finished house ready for the clients to offer it as an executive rental property.
